A potting shed gives you a dry bench to work at in any weather, with your pots, compost and tools in one place. A solar shed has more glazing, so there is enough light to bring seedlings on inside. Master Sheds has made both in Hempsted, Gloucester since 1984, building each one from scratch.
Because nothing comes off a shelf, the shed is planned around what you grow and the space you have. We will talk through the size, roof, doors and windows with you, then quote for exactly that.

Every potting and solar shed we make leaves the workshop with one bench and one opening window. After that it is your call: a bigger footprint for a serious vegetable grower in Bishop’s Cleeve, extra glazing on the sunny side, or a small store at one end for the mower. Extras are added to the final price, and we go through each one when we quote.
how it is built
The frame is redwood from sustainable forests, 2″ × 1½″ as standard or 2½″ × 1½″ on our heavy duty range. It is clad in 12mm kiln-dried tongue and groove, or 16mm Burleigh shiplap on heavy duty buildings, with a ½″ tongue and groove floor and an OSB roof finished in green mineral felt. We treat every building with our own water-based treatment, which is not harmful to plants, animals or children, so it is safe around your seedlings.
The base matters too. Your shed needs a firm, level footing, and we can supply timber bearers so air can move underneath. Dave and Wendy Arnold’s shed and greenhouse had to fit an existing kerb-like structure that was hard to measure accurately, and they told us it was spot on. They also noticed the damp course our team laid between the base frame and the concrete, a small detail that helps protect the shed for the long term.

Yes. Every building is treated with our own water-based treatment, which isn’t harmful to plants, animals or children. We recommend re-treating it within 6 months of it going up, then once a year.
We don’t do groundwork, but we can give you the names of local companies who can lay the base. We can also supply timber bearers to go under the building so air can circulate. It is the customer’s responsibility to make sure the base is suitably built, level and in the right position.
